Eric Shore is not a man who trusts easily. Having been burned multiple times, it’s hard for him to open up completely, but his love for Caity makes him want to try. When Caity’s behavior begins to match that of her wild roommate, Eric wonders if their relationship is as strong as he believed.

As Caity struggles to maintain her relationship and do her job, she finds herself pulled further into a dangerous world that could take away everything she holds dear. Will Eric learn the truth in time to save her? Or will the man with the eyes of a snake destroy their perfect romance?

Review: The Duff by Kody Keplinger

Credit: Goodreads
4 Stars

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.

But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.

Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

My thoughts: I saw the trailer for the movie adaptation of this book a little while ago, it looked like it would be something I would enjoy so I picked up the kindle version of the book to read before watching. Before I get into my review, I want to touch on Book vs Movie thoughts. After seeing the trailer a few times I was expecting this book to be a comedy, light and witty. It was not. It had some funny moments and light and witty moments as well, but I did not find this book comedic at all. I would also point out that based on the trailer I have seen, I would say the movie is loosely based on the book. I may be wrong and more of the book will come through on screen, but for now I am viewing them as separate entities.

When I began this book it took me a few pages to get into it. The story is told from the lead female, Bianca's POV. I found her character to be a little abrasive at first but as I got further into the story I realized we are a lot alike; introverted, quiet, tends to be blatantly honest at times, that sort of thing. I also began to see that Bianca, like many teenage girls, is extremely self conscious. When Wesley calls her the DUFF of her group it hits her deeper than what she lets on. It is something that eats away at her throughout the book.

Wesley Rush is, THAT GUY, you know the one; rich, drop dead sexy, all around arrogant ass. When Bianca and Wesley begin their "relationship" it is clear there is more to him that Bianca thinks. There are so many different aspects to this book, it isn't just about Bianca and her hate/hate relationship with Wesley. It's about friendship and family and everything in between. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am excited to see how the movie compares.

A quick note.... This book is listed as Young Adult fiction. The setting is in High School so it fits strongly into that category. However, due to the sexual content I personally would not recommend this book to anyone under the age of 15. And as a mom I would probably push more toward 16-17. Bianca and Co, are seniors in HS and I believe that is the target age for which this book would apply. As an adult who loves an awesome YA book from time to time, this was a really great read.

For those who are interested, here is the trailer for the movie....

Review: Nocte (Nocte Trilogy 1) by Courtney Cole

Credit: Goodreads

5 Stars

My name is Calla Price. I'm eighteen years old, and I'm one half of a whole. My other half-- my twin brother, my Finn-- is crazy. I love him. More than life, more than anything. And even though I'm terrified he'll suck me down with him, no one can save him but me. I'm doing all I can to stay afloat in a sea of insanity, but I'm drowning more and more each day. So I reach out for a lifeline. Dare DuBray. He's my savior and my anti-Christ. His arms are where I feel safe, where I'm afraid, where I belong, where I'm lost. He will heal me, break me, love me and hate me. He has the power to destroy me. Maybe that's ok. Because I can't seem to save Finn and love Dare without everyone getting hurt. Why? Because of a secret. A secret I'm so busy trying to figure out, that I never see it coming. You won't either.

My Thoughts: When I finished this book last night I thought about all of the things I wanted to say. All of the things I was feeling. But as I turned to the author note at the back I decided to just write a short review with not much detail.

I could bleed my heart and soul into this review. I could let the tears I am trying to pretend aren't in my eyes at this very moment, spill onto my keyboard, but I won't. What I will do is tell you this....

This book hit me on such a deep personal level. In the end I was not thinking as much about the book characters and what was happening to them, I was thinking about how their story was affecting ME. How even though I had pretty much figured out what was happening I still couldn't handle it once it was revealed. It is always hard when you see things you have thought, things you have felt, poured onto the page of a truly captivating story. I can't say that this book will affect everyone the way it did me. But the link between things that have happened in my life and the things Calla is experiencing throughout this book are so so close to home. What I can tell you is that if you read this book, you will grieve, you will fall in love and you most definitely will want the second book.

I have my theories about what I believe will be revealed in book two. And I am pretty confident that I am correct. I apologize for my review being so vague, but I do agree with the author, you need to experience this book firsthand.

Review: Never Never by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

Best friends since they could walk. In love since the age of fourteen. Complete strangers since this morning.

My Thoughts; I think I will write this review in the same way I feel Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher wrote this book. I am going to just start typing and see what happens, Ok, I am only half kidding, I am sure they had some sort of idea where this is going to end up... eventually. *winky face*

So, I read a post way back when the two of them had began writing this. CoHo had posted on her Facebook page how they were each writing a chapter but the story was unfolding as they went along, sort of like a tennis match, if I understood correctly. At the time I thought, 'Oh I bet that is a fun writing exercise, bet it would be fun to read.'
Well fast-forward to this past weekend...

What the &*%@ did I just read? I was so engrossed that I couldn't put it down. Now to try and describe this book.... as you can see I have tagged it with almost everything.

  • Is it a mystery? Yes
  • Is it paranormal? Ummm, yep. Certainly not normal
  • Romance? Perhaps
  • Thriller? Well yeah
  • Contemporary? Obviously
  • Suspense? Cliffhanger, nuff said.
  • Young Adult? Most definitely. (which is one of my abso fave things)
Needless to say this book is all of the things.

Now, how do I feel about it? Well when I was reading this book I thought there is so much WTF. Literally... Double U. Teeee. Effff people. I should not have liked it, I was so lost the entire time. Imagine starting a book in the middle. You want to flip back to the beginning and see what happened but YOU CAN'T, and neither can Charlie and Silas. They are just as confused as the reader is, perhaps more. At least the readers can sit there and say... these authors are insane!! The poor characters just have to live in the world that was created for them. Okay, so maybe I should not just type every thought that is coming into my head right now. I do know they aren't real people. *nervous giggle....eye twitch*
Moving on

I guess in summary I can say that I gave this book 4 stars because It is written so superbly. The two authors, whose writing styles are so different from one another, meshed their styles together in a way that if I did not know who wrote who's POV, I would be hard pressed to guess.  (Tarryn-Charlie. Coho-Silas). They played so well off of one another's character cues and I have to wonder if they didn't both sit and laugh evil genius style while writing each chapter.
The cliffhanger, while worthy of a little scream of frustration, was very well placed as far as cliffhangers go, I can see why it was decided to break this into parts VS one longer novel. I was warned, I knew it was coming. So the closer I got to the end I started glancing between the words and the percentage left on my kindle. It still stung.
All in all I really enjoyed this book, I am anxious for part two and can't wait to see what happens next. I am reserving my 5th Star for when I have seen how this plays out.

Now if you haven't... GO... read it!!! And if you have leave me a comment and tell me what you thought about it.

Cover Reveal: Paris Hemsworth's Road to Wonderland by Francesa Marlow

Paris Hemworth’s Road to Wonderland
Author: Francesca Marlow
Genre: New Adult

Add to Goodreads
Synopsis:

‘Paris Hemsworth’s Road To Wonderland’ is the second novel in a new adult series, which tells the tale of a seventeen-year-old girl's tragedy. A tragedy that steers her down an unlikely path full of twists and turns.

Paris is a naive, feisty fashionista who floats, carefree, through her life in 1990’s Manchester, thanks to her three great loves: her father, her best friend, and her motorbike. Izzy Moffit is a shy, quiet, literature lover who has been surrounded by violence daily, seeking solace in movies and music. The two are an unlikely duo, but since the age of four, they have been inseparable, always promising to be there for each other no matter what.
That is until one day Paris receives heart-shattering news which turns her life upside-down. Suddenly, their friendship is tested in ways it never has before, and just when things are starting to look up for them, adulthood steps in and kicks them both in unimaginable ways. Paris is forced into a life full of fear, guilt and doubt, which sees her evolve from the feisty, fun young girl she once was into something she never thought she’d be. Weak.

Having hit rock bottom, Paris is left with two options: climb the ladder back up or continue to swim in the sea of despair. The first option is easier said than done when you have no hope or faith left, when the loves of your life have all moved on, and you think you’re alone in the world. In the war against addiction, Paris knows it is only a matter of time before something has to give, but she is unable to predict at what cost

Author Bio:
Francesca is a self-confessed drifter, never quite fitting in anywhere until she discovered the love of reading two years ago. Books proved to be non-judgemental, loyal and thought provoking, so much so that she was inspired to create her own world. A world where she could channel her every day thoughts and emotions to deal with the daily grind which we call ‘life’.

Francesca’s biggest accomplishments to date are the two little ladies that share her heart, closely followed by the one thing she is very proud to say: “I wrote a bloody novel!” She’s a Yorkshire lass and a secret romantic at heart, with an eclectic taste in music and a great love for films - all of which continue to be a source of creativity as well as well deserved relaxation moments.
